Pancake Breakfast
Brockton’s Board of Directors hosted a Pancake Breakfast for the entire Brockton community – students, their families, faculty and staff. Pancakes & syrup, fresh fruit, coffee/tea, milk & juices were served in the front courtyard of the school. It was a great opportunity for the new and returning parents to meet and mingle.

4th Annual Brockton Point Hike

The morning of Sunday 23rd Sept was overcast down in the city, and driving up the Mount Seymour road we entered a heavy mist. The Brockton tent at the end of the parking lot ensured no-one got lost and we gathered for a prompt start at 9:30. Some hearty souls arrived in shorts, and were much sympathised with, however, they had the right idea. Ron fortunately knew where he was going, and leaped off like a mountain goat, blazing the way for the rest of us, huffing and puffing to keep up. As we started climbing we started to remove our outer layers, and enjoyed the sunbeams shining through the trees which was quite magical. We tried not to get too strung out along the trail so that everyone could see people ahead to follow, as many of us did not know the trail. By the time we got up to Brockton Point we were in glorious sunshine! We were up above the clouds for our sushi and cookie snacks, which were much appreciated. It was a long walk for the little ones, who all did really well and those carrying even littler ones were amazing. All in all it was a lovely morning, and I for one was very glad I had got up early to enjoy our local mountain. A big thank you, to everyone who made it on Sunday.

Medieval Studies
The senior students were coached in the sport of archery this week in physical education. Don and Marianne from The North Shore Archers coached the students in the safe and correct method of shooting the arrows at the target. Jon, already a member of The North Shore Archers brought his own bow and demonstrated how to shoot effectively. The students were using re-curve bows ranging from 16 to 30 pounds. This activity is part of the grade 7 and 8 MYP cross curricular unit on Medieval Realms. Look out for stories of their alchemy work in science, the latest in castle design in IT and medieval inspired tunes in music

Bard on the Beach
On Tuesday we went to Bard on the Beach to see The Taming of the Shrew. We arrived at 1:15, so we got to walk right in. There is a man called Baptista, who has two daughters, the youngest daughter is sweet, but the older one is sharp-tongued and has no suitors. Baptista declares that his younger daughter cannot be married before his older daughter is married. This is a hilarious play that is full of twists and turns. Some of the things that I liked are that it was set in the Wild West, the special effects were good and the props were excellent. If I was going to rate this play out of ten, I would give it an eight or nine.

Welcome Back!
We are delighted and excited to welcome new and old students to Brockton School. We hope that everyone had an enjoyable summer and are refreshed and ready to start the new year. Last night's Back to School BBQ was a great way to meet the new families and reconnect with our old friends. Thanks to the Brockton Parent Community for all their leadership and dedicated planning and preparation.
